HISTORY
Sandy MacDonald started Sandy’s Light Oilfield Hauling (as it was known then) with a single red 1969 Chevrolet Heavy Half. By adopting a never say no attitude and always putting the customer first, Sandy soon saw his volume of work increase and realized very quickly that his single pickup would not suffice. Through word of mouth and building on an outstanding reputation for service, one customer became many, and soon Sandy was operating a fleet of trucks servicing all of western Canada.
Over the years Sandy’s expanded and diversified, bringing the unique form of hard working attitude, determination and ingenuity found only in the oilpatch to other industries. From electrical equipment being delivered to communities in blackout at all hours of the night, to camps being delivered to house firefighters during the wildfire season, to a partnership which saw us hauling facilities to house all of the security personnel for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, our reputation for rock solid reliability has led us to be called upon when the job is important, and time is critical.
Service, dependability, and a solid work ethic are values which Sandy himself espoused, and everyone at Sandy’s takes pride in embodying every day.
LOCATION AND STAFF
Centrally located in Nisku, Alberta, Sandy’s Oilfield Hauling provides service throughout the western provinces and territories. Our location is ideal both as a distribution point for regional work or as a hub for larger projects further afield. Our facility itself is a 31 acre fully secured, fenced and lighted compound which includes our OCTG storage facility and our shops. As a licensed commercial vehicle inspection facility, we perform all of our own service in our fully equipped shop. We also have a full service welding and fabrication facility where we rig up our own trucks and specialized trailers.
Our people make us great. We are a family company, and we treat our staff like family. We have a very low turnover rate for the industry (we have employees who have been with us since day one!), and this allows us to offer a level of experience and knowledge hard to match anywhere else.
SAFETY
Safety is more than just a buzzword at Sandy’s, it is a core value. Any business which sacrifices safe operating procedures for volume or profit will have neither for very long. Part of the secret of our longevity in an industry rife with fly by night operators is that we understand the value in doing the job the right way the first time, and safety is a large part of this. Our drivers are subject to random drug screening, they maintain all relevant tickets (including H2S, WHIMIS, TDG, CSTS, and First Aid), and are
retrained at regular intervals, depending on need. Our Health and Safety officer and management are also subject to regular training to keep abreast of changes in the industry, common practices and the Health and Labour code.
